Listening to this very interesting Podcast as a person who has over 2 decades of experience in construction (similar to the hosts). I can totally relate withe the challenges of integrating remote management and tech into this field. There has been and continues to be a lot of investment in developing tech for the construction industry, but the hurdle is the ability to fully integrate.
What I mean is that people who are not in the sector do not understand how many layers of people and companies are involved in building a project. This creates a challenge in managing and distributing data --reliable and current data -- in a timely manner. That is why so many aspects of management occurs via conversation, meetings, and phone calls---communication methods that are not used by Gen Y, Z and likely future generations. Talking is faster than trying to get the info into a system and pushing to the right people who [hopefully] will get it in time to execute.
I am hopeful that the next gen of construction professionals will figure this out because as owners continue to demand value and put pressure on profits, we (as a sector) must progress and drive efficiency in the process.
