One Musing
Hope all the American readers had a Happy/ Safe 4th of July & short week and came out of it with all your digits attached.
For me the short week meant, I didn’t get a fresh musing written up so I thought it was a good opportunity to share a Blog post I wrote back on the original ConstructionYeti.com page from 2020. Before I started the Substack.
I almost cringe at the writing as my writing style has changed quite a bit with the reps. But here are “7 Reasons Why Construction Workers Start So Early.”
Have you ever been woken up in the early morning by construction construction noise outside or just wondered why crews are already hard at work while you are on your morning commute. For the construction industry the typical work hours are from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. With a 30 minute lunch break, this makes for an 8 hour work day. Although these are typical hours, site conditions and day to day activities can call for an earlier start time.
There are many reasons why construction workers start so early including:
Maximize the use of daylight
Miss the heat of the day in the afternoon
Adjust work hours based on season weather patterns
Allow for multiple shifts to work onsite
Miss the morning and evening commuter traffic
To ensure available parking in downtown work sites
Avoid impacting regular business when working in occupied buildings
If you’re interested to keep reading and get the expansion of each reason head on over to: https://www.constructionyeti.com/why-construction-workers-start-so-early/
Know of any other reasons? Let me know and I’ll update the blog post!

Nonresidential construction spending shrinks for first time in 11 months
Via ConstructionDive.com:
The slight drop this month follows an 11-month streak of nonresidential spending increases, largely driven by strong activity in manufacturing construction.
“While spending is up more than 17% over that [11-month] span, manufacturing-related construction accounted for the majority of that increase,” said Anirban Basu, ABC chief economist. “Excluding the manufacturing segment, nonresidential construction spending is barely outpacing inflation, up just 6% over the past year.”

This comes from Aaron Witt of BuildWitt
Someone who was just about to graduate college recently asked us on a podcast what we thought the economy was going to do and if there would be any jobs in December. My answer was there will (almost) always be sectors that are building and to follow the money. Infrastructure is definitely one of those industries to follow.
