Construction Curiosities #16
Marketing thru Everyday Actions, Simply Be a Good Person, & Construction Charlies
Hey! Happy Saturday! Matt here. Welcome to the Construction Curiosities newsletter. If you thought I forgot this week and don’t follow me on LinkedIn, you might have missed it. I have decided to move the Newsletter to a Saturday morning delivery.
To all the old and especially the new subscribers, thank you for your support and for giving me a tiny bit of real estate in your inbox each week.
This weekly Newsletter explores my Curiosities in the Construction Industry. It's meant to make you think, smile, and become a better, more well-informed Construction Professional.
Summary
This week we will look at:
One Curiosity: Everyday Marketing
One Video: Construction Simulator
One Quote: Be a Good Person
One Meme: Construction Charlies
One Curiosity
When I created this newsletter, one of the things I didn’t immediately think about was how much I was going to have to market it and “sell” it. It’s free but it costs people giving up their email address and access to their inbox. Maybe that’s even more valuable to people than money.
I knew very little about marketing going in. Mostly just what I heard Gary Vee talk about. It’s been a fun game experimenting to learn what works and what doesn’t.
When Perryn Olson (VP of Marketing at Rex.one) reached out to offer to be a part of the newsletter, I jumped at the opportunity.
In speaking with Perryn, I knew we needed to do more than just a written Q&A so we decided to do…
The Construction Curiosities First Ever Video Q&A.
We chat about:
How you are a Brand Ambassador for the company you work for. Both on and off the job site, whether you like it or not! (hint: getting repeat work is the easiest sales cycle!)
Intentionally getting Sales/ Marketing and Operations together to improve Relationships and benefit both sides.
Finding and Targeting PERFECT project fits, instead of “round peg/ oval hole” situations.
How to personally Network without spamming people online and in person. (hint: just act normal)
Lots more.
I loved the conversation and it went a little longer than I anticipated. I could have chatted all afternoon but Perryn had to get back to prepping for AI Day for Rex’s new SuperDroid Robots.

What are your thoughts on the topic? Any additional insights you can provide?
One (more) Video
When you dig construction so much you want to build on your off time.
This looks like GTA meets the Sims meets Roller Coaster Tycoon. (there’s likely a small demographic of people that fully gets all those references.)
One Quote
Speaking of Gary Vee…
Most of the time it’s just that simple if you can maintain patience.
One Meme
This one hits close to home as we wrap up setting a GMP on a large program I am working on at my day job.
